RC 59 - Business Consent Form

To meet the demands of our clients, we have added functionality for Form RC59 following Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) reluctance to disclose certain business information for individuals, even when the required standard authorization Form T1013 was on file.

In order to complete Form RC59 for a client, you are required to use the following keywords:

    1) To obtain authorization for business information from a client :

    BUS-CONSENT.RC : Print business consent form [RC59]

This keyword allows you to generate Form RC59 for the following scenarios (new options):

  • Authorize - All program accounts - All years
  • Authorize - Selected program accounts and periods
  • Authorize online - All program accounts - All years
  • Authorize online - Selected program accounts and periods
  • Cancel one or more authorizations only (see below)
  • The BUS-CONSENT.RC keyword group includes the following keyword:

    i) BUS-NAME.RC : Business name [RC59 Part 1]

You are required to enter the name of the business in order to produce the RC59. Without mention of a proper business name, an "Error and warning message" will be displayed and prevent the calculation of the income tax return.

    ii) BUS-NUMBER : Business identification number [RC59 Part 1]

Likewise, you are also required to enter the 9-digit business identification number in order to produce Form RC59. Failure to enter this information will prevent the calculation of the tax return.

    iii) TELEPHONE.RC2 : Business telephone number [RC59 Part 1]

Use this keyword to enter the business telephone number.

    iv) AUTHORIZE-ACCESS : Authorize a representative [RC59 Part 2]

This keyword allows you to use Form RC59 to authorize a representative. Consequently, you will be required to use the following sub-keywords to enter the representative's information:

    • Individual-Name : Full name of individual representative [RC59 Part 2].

    • Firm-Name.rc : Name of representing firm [RC59 Part 2].

    • Telephone.rc : Telephone number of representative [RC59 Part 2]

    • Bus-Number.rc2 : Representative's business identification number [RC59 Part 2]

    v) ExpiryDate.rc : Enter the expiry date if you want the authorization to automatically expire [RC59 Part 3 b)]

You are required to enter an expiry date in order to determine the period of time during which the authorization will be valid.

vi) AUTH-LEVEL.RC : Select the level of authorization of the representative [RC59 Part 3 b)]

You may choose between i) Level 1 - disclose, or ii) Level 2 - disclose/request changes.

    vii) PROG-IDENTIFIER : Program identifier [RC59 Part 3]

Use this keyword to select the program identifier. Only if you have picked any of the two options in the keyword AUTH-LEVEL.RC , with respect to specific access to certain accounts, will you be provided with the option of selecting the program you are requesting authorization for. In that situation, you are also required to enter this information in order to allow the calculation of the tax return.

Please note that for online authorization access, a RepID is mandatory. The RepID for your firm or office should have been uniformly installed at set-up. It is found under the Identification numbers tab, located in the Tax preparer identification dialog generated by selecting Identification from the Preferences menu.

    2) To cancel one or more authorizations

You can also use Form RC59 to cancel an authorization. In order to cancel an existing authorization, you can use the keyword BUS-CONSENT.RC and select the sub-keyword CANCEL-AUTHORIZE to choose among the following options :
    • Cancel all authorizations
    • By using this option, no further entries are required.

    • Cancel authorization for the individual or firm
    • You must subsequently enter either the name of the individual with the keyword IndividualName.c , or the firm name with the keyword Firm-Name.rc .
